2015 Featured Building of the Year Winner – 1st Place

Category: Agricultural Storage/Workshop
rossiter2This is a great example of the best of post frame for agriculture. Features such as a large hydraulic door, overhead doors, slide-door, side-light, acoustic ceiling liner combined with large and small shop areas and cold storage combine to create an extremely versatile building.

Three different large door styles truly allow for a building with many uses. The hydraulic door and a large overhead door allow for easy drive through access to the lined and insulated shop. A slide door gives the same large opening to the cold storage area off of the shop.

midwest2This building is for a growing automotive business in Wapello, Iowa. It has allowed the business to expand and offer new services to its customers.  Specifically, collision repair is now being performed along with general mechanic services.

In-floor heat keeps the work-space free of tracked in snow and provides an enjoyable space to work through the winter.  There are lots of windows placed high on the end walls and each of the overhead doors are entirely glass, giving the work area lots of great natural light.

block2This hobby shop sits on a beautiful home site with a custom home nearby. It’s dimensions fit nicely on the lot and the building adds a lot of versatility in a great looking package. Currently it is storing a restored 1948 John Deere tractor purchased by the building owner’s grandfather.

Post frame construction was the perfect option for this project because it offered design flexibility at a competitive rate, such as the porch construction would have been less feasible and more costly with steel.

Chris and Keith Ball, owners of Ball Brothers Farms, are a few of southeast Iowa’s most respected farmers. Their hard work, dedication, and success has allowed them to build this wonderful new shop & office facility. They used premier products from many NFBA member suppliers & advanced modern day post frame methods such as wrapped posts and Kynar paint.

PostSaver wrapped posts were used to prolong post life while maintaining the strength advantage of posts in ground and protecting the environment from contamination caused by leeching of treatment. Kynar paint considerably slows chalking and fading. Insulated trench footing increases energy efficiency for the entire building.
